Choosing Long Or Short Watch Straps
A short watch straps is a style statement, and one of the best ways to bring it to life is by swapping out its strap. From classic leather to modern metal bracelets, a watch strap makes for an easy DIY accessory upgrade that can dramatically change the look of your timepiece.
As wrist sizes vary across individuals, a proper fit is crucial to the comfort and function of a watch. Baggy, ill-fitting straps are a major fashion faux pas and can clamp down on the skin to inhibit blood circulation. Fortunately, many watches come with a range of strap lengths to accommodate different wrists.
Whether you’re looking to refresh an existing watch or just want to add a bit of personality to your new purchase, here are some tips for selecting the ideal strap length.
Premium NATO Straps: Elevate Your Watch Game
Pass-through straps (also called slip-through or slide-through) are the most versatile of all watch straps because they go completely around your wrist. Because of this, they’re usually less tight on the wrist than traditional leather straps and can be worn with casual attire as well as formal. When choosing a pass-through strap, make sure to subtract the length of your watch case from your wrist size and allow for an extra 2cm or about 1″ of strap length for a comfortable fit.
Nylon straps are also a great everyday option for casual wear because they’re lightweight, durable and come in a variety of colors. For a more rugged look, try the NATO-style nylon strap that was originally developed for military use and resembles the webbing of seatbelts.
